Maintaining your website is just as important as establishing it.
Remember that your website may be the first point of contact with your company for potential customers. As such, the impression they have of your website will be their initial impression of your company.
If your website has dates that have expired, for example in the copyright notice at the bottom of your pages, your visitors will notice this and may assume that you are no longer operating.
Repeat visitors will also notice if the content doesn't change. If there is no new content to view then they will have no reason to continue visiting your website.
