Understanding Your Website Statistics
|
In order to monitor the visits to your website you will need to be able to understand the statistics provided.
NOTE: To have your statistics emailed to you please fill out this form.
A session is: a unique visit. Each visitor to your site is recorded as a session. This is why your session numbers will be lower than your hits. It is the accurate measure of how many visitors you are receiving.
A hit is: recorded every time a visitor accesses a page even if they have been there before.
A referred session is: a session that occurred by the visitor following a link to your website either from a search engine or another webpage.
An entry point page is: the page that a visitor enters the site on.
An exit point page is: the last page viewed by the visitor before leaving the site.
An error page is: a page that returned an error when a visitor attempted to access it. If this is occurring often on a particular page it may mean that there is a problem with that page or the link that the visitor is using to try and access the page.
Your statistics will also tell you the most active referring search engines, domains and URLs (pages). They also provide a breakdown of where your visitors come from and the most common web browsers and operating systems being used by visitors to your site.
If your statistics are showing that visits to your page are declining you may need to undertake a marketing strategy or update your pages with new content.
